Meeting the ever-increasing traffic throughput demands
31 January 2019 saw the completion of a 3-year project to future-proof the national education & research network – delivering 100 Gbps capacity for ultra-high bandwidth traffic for higher education institutions (HEIs), across 216 locations in Ireland.
Dec 2016: first client connected – Dec 2018: all clients connected
- The new network forms a solid foundation for current and upcoming cloud and shared services delivery
- Providing a flexible platform to respond to upcoming client merges and consolidations
- Enabling enhanced resilience levels
- Reducing the national network energy footprint at client premises
- Combining two network layers – thereby reducing site and service disturbance
- Bringing the benefits of virtualisation and SDN (Software Defined Networks) network futures to our HEI client-base
