HEAnet and Union of Students in Ireland Team Up to Welcome Freshers with eduroam Wi-Fi
eduroam, short for “education roaming,” is a global Wi-Fi service that enables students, researchers, and staff at participating institutions to securely access the internet, whether on their home campus or at other participating campuses worldwide. In Ireland, eduroam is an essential service for hundreds of education and research institutions, providing seamless, secure internet access across 700+ hotspots.
This year, to support incoming students as they embark on their education journeys, HEAnet collaborated with the Union of Students in Ireland (USI) to ensure that new students are aware of eduroam’s benefits. As part of this collaboration, information on eduroam was included in the information leaflet distributed by the USI to hundreds of students through the Students Union Offices across Ireland. The leaflet offers guidance on how to connect to safe and secure campus connectivity using eduroam.
Founded in 1959, the USI, acts as the national representative body for more than 374,000 students in Irish higher education , it plays a pivotal role in advocating for student needs, and has been a valuable partner of HEAnet for many years.
The President of the Students Unions of Ireland and graduate of Munster Technological University, (MTU) Chris Clifford.
“The Student Unions leaflet informs student unions nationwide of its role as the national student representative. It highlights USI’s advocacy for student rights, its educational policy campaigns, and the opportunity for students to engage in shaping national policy and gaining leadership experience. We were pleased to include information on the importance of safe connectivity on eduroam, for new students entering universities nationwide”
