Prepare your Campus for internet-hungry visitors with eduroam Visitor Access (eVA)
HEAnet is delighted to announce the launch of a new service, eduroam Visitor Access (eVA).
HEAnet clients who already offer the eduroam service on their Wi-Fi networks can now avail of the eduroam Visitor Access service. This service can provide temporary internet connectivity for groups and visitors of all sizes, from 4 – 400 plus people, even if they do not have their own eduroam accounts.
In the higher education institutions and venues across the country, it is often necessary to provide a temporary internet connection when hosting large groups of visitors, students or delegates. The eVA service is purposely designed to ensure a smooth and easy set up that can be done by non-IT staff on your campus or venue.
Some of the benefits of eduroam Visitor Access:
- Visitors have secure access to your network; You receive visitors every day who want access to your Wi-Fi networks. With eVA, you can easily give them a Wi-Fi connection to your own secure and reliable network.
- Easy to use; An employee of your institute creates a temporary eduroam account for your visitor in a web portal. Once the account is created, the visitor will receive an e-mail or SMS with their personal login details and can immediately access the network.
- You maintain overview and control; You know exactly how many and which visitors are on your network. Additionally, you can determine the duration of validity for eduroam guest accounts, allowing you to maintain control and an overview.
We would like to thank HEAnet Clients who have tested the service so far and are delighted to share some feedback from Barry O Sullivan, Head of IT Operations, IT Services, University College Cork;
“As an academic institution, seamless connectivity for our guests is crucial. We tested the new eduroam Visitor Access service and were so impressed that we quickly promoted it within the university. The ease of access, robust security, and feature-rich portal have simplified Wi-Fi management for both our staff and IT administrators, without the need for new infrastructure.”
