Alan Smeaton is Professor of Computing at Dublin City University and an award-winning and highly decorated academic researcher. He is a founding director of the Insight SFI Research Centre for Data Analytics and has more than two decades of experience in applying and innovating in Artificial Intelligence in areas such as computer vision, machine learning, information retrieval and educational analytics.

Alan is a regular media commentator on the development of AI and the use of technologies which underpin it. In January of this year he was appointed to the Irish Government's Advisory Council on Artificial Intelligence.
