The “human factor” is often referenced by security professionals, but what is it really? What are the mechanisms behind human error?
This lightning talk uses cognitive psychology to explain why the human brain, and therefore us and our end-users, are prone to making “human errors”. Starting with 1700s Utilitarianism and moving on to modern theories of decision-making (with a few puzzles along the way to highlight just how bad at logical thinking our brains really are), this talk offers a whistle-stop tour of how we think, the biases we are prone to, and how cybercriminals turn these against us.
