This one day workshop will cover two topics. In the morning we will explore existing RDM services in place at Irish institutions and how HEAnet and GÉANT could potentially help acquire and deliver an integrated set of research data services via procurement. The afternoon session will focus on further developing the maturity level model for research support at Irish universities.

Following up on the survey run in December 2022, the morning session will explore current RDM service provision in Irish higher education institutions in more detail and collate needs to help inform future work by HEAnet and GÉANT. The survey conducted under the EOSC Future project investigated what research support and tools are in place at each institution and potential needs to improve provision. The hope is to better support institutions to acquire and deliver an integrated set of research data services via procurement.

The workshop will focus on key areas of provision including CRIS systems and data repositories. Examples will be given from the community to seed discussion and explore what is currently working well and how more collective action at national level could help. Potential exists to support European procurement frameworks via EOSC Future, should relevant needs be identified.

Overarching themes and discussion points for the workshop are:

  • How can research data service provision be improved?
  • Interoperability and integrations to improve workflows between systems
  • The role of procurement frameworks and collective purchasing
  • Nationally operated / supported services

The afternoon will address the maturity level model for research support. Both sessions are intended for research data support staff from IT, library and research office who have responsibility for different services. This ties in with the remit of RESIN, the national forum for research services and infrastructure. The event will provide an opportunity to discuss your needs, explore ways in which these could be better supported, and how to measure and increase the maturity of provision.
